You can always be in the water..even when you aren't surfing!

About to dive off the block

I am on my high school's swimming team. I have been surfng as long as I have been swimming. I have found that swimming keeps you in shape while not surfing. It's more mental than physical though. You have to have confidence in the pool just like in the ocean. When I am doing the freestyle stroke i like to pretend that I am on my board and paddling out to a line- up on a huge day. This mentality sort of helps me stay focused more and keeps me happy. Plus, not only does it keep your endorphins going, it helps with your paddling endurance and breathing (holding your breath).
Hope this helps.

Surf paddling on Vasa Trainer
by: William Burnett

If you are like me, getting to a pool just is not an option due to time, family, scheduling at the pool.
So I got a Vasa Trainer and it solved all the problems for me - I "swim" and surf paddle and do 10 other exercises about 3 - 4 times per week for 25 minutes. The result is I am really fit for paddling and riding when I CAN get out surfing, and especially for my annual vacations to Costa Rica. Oh, and it's much better than the rubber tubing I used before.
Surf on!
