Stay on the beach if you can't surf by: Locals Union
Surfing on either side of the pier is not for beginner's. It is dangerous for the uninformed and the unenlightened.
*** Best Tip *** try Bolsa Chica to the north, where the surf is gentle for the most part.
If you must attack the pier; be respectful of the surf conditions, the pier and the regulars who, for the most part, have paid their dues.
*** Runner-up Tip *** If you can not control your surfboard when standing-up surfing the wave and/or while paddling out, Do Not Surf the pier because you are going to get hurt or, worse yet, hurt some other poor sod.
