It takes some effort to get good surfing photos. With swell conditions, surfers, light and weather, a lot of surfing photos just don't come out that well. For the few gems worth saving there are a lot of pictures thrown out. Read my wife's article on taking photos to see how to get good surf photos, especially with kids around. At least now you can junk all your bad photos from a digital camera without wasting film. If your still using regular film...WHY ARE YOU? You can get good digital photos from cameras under $200 now.
