surfer's cross

by Jane Weems
(Lakeport, CA. USA)

Hello!

I have a surfer's cross my older brother gave me when I was just a little kid, in the early 1960's. It is a maltese cross, whith a guy on a surfboard popping out of the front On the bottom part of the cross, it had the date 1885...I think the date was on the bottom, on the back. I knew the cross wasn't that old, but, i always wondered why that date was on there. Now, i know!...thanks!...a 45 year mystery solved!

my older brother was a biker in the early-mid 60's, who always brought interesting things home...the bottom of the cross with the date, has broken off, but, I still have the rest of it somewhere. I wish someone would re-cast it for me! It's been a treasure of mine for many many years!

Does anyone know where this item came from? I've always thought it was some early california surfers club medallion....there is a crown at the top back of the cross, and the letter "W" in the center of the back...if anyone could tell me anything more about it, I would really appreciate it! thanks!

SURFR CROSS
by: SURFER DUDE

I am was/am a surfer and biker from the late 60's
from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and past member of The Southeast Surfing Assoc.

I wore a "Surfer's Cross" which in fact was just
a plain Maltise Cross. At the time no other identity was attached to it except surfing.

Unfortunately, the Maltise Cross was also used as a symbol/metal on early German Uniforms as well. Maybe you cross is an antique from an early German
Uniform that was adapted with the Surfer stuff, explaining the date on the back. Just a thought.

Peace and Love

Surfers Cross

That sounds like the Surfers Cross, they were big when I was a kid living in San Diego in the 60's. You can google surfers cross and they have a picture of them. You may check a local jeweler and see if they know someone that can recast that for you.
