Sebastian Inlet

by Dustin Randall
(Sebastian inlet, Florida, Brevard)

Sebastian usually isn't crowded, even though it is one of the best surfing, and probably only at that, in Florida. Me and a few friends headed out on a wind swell day. Getting there early to be sure to beat the blown out mid-day surf. Usually people fish off the shore so there's always that chance. We paddled out into school of bait fish. They seemed to always surround us and you could see them in the face of the wave. Sitting on my board I see a furry of jumping fish moving rapidly in my direction, a fin chasing them. About 5-10 feet away from me a black tip breached the water to get some of the frantic fish. I didn't want to be mistaken for one of the little things. I've never paddled so fast in my life.
