Rincon
Rincon is a classic California point break at the southern end of Santa Barbara County, conveniently located of highway 1 (101) and access is from Bates Road. It has been surfed since the late 1930's and featured in many surf documentaries dating back to 1959. The best time for this break is late fall to early spring when the wnw to wsw swells can make in. Best tide is low to medium. For wnw swells it's better when the wave period is 15 seconds or less. Best wave height is 4-8ft. There are three separate sections. - The Indicator - At the top of the point. Connects to Rivermouth.
- The Rivermouth - Hollow section that connects Indicator to The Cove.
- The Cove - Starts halfway up the point and peels to the rocks on the beach.
All three sections can connect, although rare, making for one big ass ride, assuming nobody gets in your way. People getting in the way can be a problem since it's always crowded. This area can can be polluted, especially after heavy rains, not that it will stop the crowds. My personal experience of this place consists of staring at clean but crowded 1-2ft waves before continuing on highway 1.
