Morro Rock

The Morro Rock is the obvious dominant geographical feature of the area. It used to be a seastack but is now connected to land by a breakwater. This also happens to be a popular surf spot.

The most reliable (and crowded) surf is on the north side of the rock. Long mushy lefts tend to break here. The other side of the Morro Rock is the entrance to Morro Bay and can produce waves in big swells.

Occasionally there a a-frames and tubes here but don't expect it. It will usually close out over six foot and same goes for low tide.

If it's too crowded at the north side of the rock there are many miles of beachbreak to the north. Plenty of room to spread out. South of Morro Rock is a jetty break and miles of less easily seen reefbreak and beachbreak.

There is camping at Montana de Oro State Park and the Morro Strand State Beach. I like the Strand because you can wake up and walk out to the beach. There are also several RV parks in the area.
