More "pro" Bodyboarding

by Volny
(SF)

Despite being a quicker to learn way of riding a wave bodyboarding actually gets pretty technical passed a certain stage.

Anyway here some other advantages of bodyboarding:

-Late take off

-Deep tube rides

-Pulling straight into the tube when you take off

-Catching more waves

-Not rely on your arms only to paddle (can save your life)

-Not being pulled by the ankle when you wipe out because of the leash position

-More Air Tricks

-Easier duck dives

-Variety of different take off (take off roll, take off 360 etc...)

-Easy to carry gear especially on plane trips

-Quicker learning curve, but you can spend a life time learning some tricks.

-Best ride for super hollow waves, slabs, shallow reef breaks. Leave the soft waves for bigger surfboards and longboards.

-Not being knocked out by your board falling on your head (many surfers got injured this way)

-Easy tube rides whether it's small or giant

-Draw a higher line on the face of the wave than with a surfboard

-Easier to maneuver and spin around to take a wave while paddling

-Not as breakable than a surfboard and a lot cheaper

-Different variety of stances (Drop knee, Prone, Stand up)

-Having swimfins on your feet, in case your leash breaks and you have to swim out of a rip (good luck in Norcal if you're finless)

-Best ride for shorebreaks, especially with strong backwash (the wedge)

-Less of an issue when the ocean is textured or windy

Spongeboarding Rocks
by: Banyardi

I like your thesis. I've been spongeboarding since the first Boogie board was available in the late '70's. I would also add, that spongeboards are much easier to transport. I've taken them to some pretty bitch'n surf spots all over the world. I still surf on a longboard and I want to get a SUP board, but when it gets big I always reach for my spongeboard. After it gets above head-high, I don't have that much confidence in my abilities on a longboard or SUP board, but I know I can handle anything on a spongeboard. I have a tricked-out Toobs that I've had in 12' surf and held my own with the hotshots on shortboards.
