Linda Mar

Linda Mar is also known as Pacifica State Beach. It's about 15 minutes south of San Francisco and is the same area that has the most shopping and homes in Pacifica. It's the most crowded of the SF Area popular surf spots. Go at high tide most days and you’ll find surf....maybe not great, but rideable. Usually smaller on the south end with more longboards but plenty of all kinds of wave devices throughout: shortboards, fishboards, bodyboards, kayaks...you get the idea. Usually closes out on wave heights over 7 feet. It’s pretty darned convenient, with showers, bathrooms, and a Taco Bell right on the beach....probably the only Taco Bell on the beach in California.

It’s not as good as Ocean Beach on the better days but it has a lot more ridable days than OB. It’s often crowded and sometimes utterly hopeless on the weekends. Surfing this place can be fun, but the weekend crowds on some days definitely send me exploring other options. On rainy southish wind days, it’s pretty much the only surf in town. The lodging closest to Linda Mar is the Pacifica Beach Resort (525 Crespi Dr.) and restaurant, which overlooks Pacifica State Beach. A short walk to the surf shops and the surf, this place is extremely convenient. You can also stay at Rockaway beach at the less expensive Sea Breeze Motel (100 Rockaway Beach Ave), a short drive or a 15 minute walk over a nice trail from Linda Mar. The Ristorante Portofino (105 Rockaway Beach Ave) has good Italian food and ocean views at Rockaway. For less expensive dining, there’s La Playa Taqueria (5460 Coast Hwy) at the south end of the beach. Despite the bizarre dim red lighting, this place is kid-friendly and has good burritos. There’s also a Taco Bell right on the beach with an outside window if you’re wet and sandy. For stuff to do, Pacifica has lots of hiking trails and kid parks. A great surf hub on the peninsula, Pacifica’s central to both the HMB Jetty and OBSF. Nearby Surf Shops

Linda Mar is way too crowded! Why does anybody even bother with that place sometime? There can be some OK days there but not when there are 100 old dudes ...
