Learning on Hurrican Earl - An Awful Idea

by Sarah Prince
(Ocean Park, Maine)

So yesterday I got back in the water after not surfing for about 4 years,I was so excited. I went to check the water out and it looked huge but I figured I wouldn't go out too far and I'd try to catch a smaller one, there were no smaller ones.

I was especially nervous because I didn't want my 8 month old daughter to be motherless, people were being pulled in left and right and the shore was so crowded I was almost certain I'd plow into someone. I decided to just body board, may as well have some safe realistic fun.

It was not until Earl that I have ever felt so minuscule, I hope today will be smaller as I just want to have some simple fun without getting smashed around. I saw some experienced guys farther out, I felt their eyes looking at me wondering "what does that chick think she's doing, I felt like I was the little kid who couldnt play with the big kids, I hope to feel differently today since Earl has left the premise.
