California Surfboard Companies
There are many more than these of course, including countless backyard shapers that make excellent boards for themselves and just a few friends. Kane Garden: San Diego company. I have one of their twinzer fish and I love that board. Versatile and tough. Pearson Arrow: Company in Santa Cruz. Very popular in Central California. I had a couple of their boards. Spent a couple of years on a Arrow postmodern fish. Neptune: San Francisco Bay Area company. Bessell: Tim Bessell has produced boards under his name since 1997. Bruce Jones: Bruce Jones Surfboards has been around since 1973 and Bruce was shaping before then. The shop is in Newport Beach and the surfboards are made nearby in Costa Mesa. They make just about every style/shape you can think of. Eaton: Mike Eaton designs stand up paddleboards, longboards, funboards, bonzers, and guns. He also makes replicas of vintage surfboards. Those designs are manufactured at Waterlines Unlimited in San Diego. Vernor: Davind Vernor makes all kinds of surfboards in Watsonville. Shortboards, eggs, longboards, and retro twins to mention some. He makes them in both epoxy/styrofoam and the traditional polyester/polyurethane. Some of these boards are featuring the I-beam suspension, created to reduce twist and add drive. Personally I snapped the nose of my one Vernor surfboard twice....but that was years ago. Mandala: These boards are made by Manuel Caro in San Francisco. His specialty is retro, vintage, and alternative surfboards. I have one of his quads and it is great board. Fast down the line with a very natural feel. The boards are a little pricey but worth it. He is also very easy to work with. Infinity: Began in 1970 by Steve Boehne and his wife Barrie in Huntington Beach. Current shapers are Steve and Dan Boehne, Ryan Engle, and Larry Cobb. Featuring such boards as the "Floater", the "Rad NoseRider", and the "Secret Weapon". Fletcher Chouinard Designs: Uses Patagonia technology to build hand shaped custom epoxy surfboards. Based out of Ventura.
